The „Ukraina! 9. Film Festival” is set to kick off in Warsaw, marking a significant event dedicated entirely to Ukrainian cinema. Starting on October 21 and running until October 27, the festival will take place at several venues, including Kinoteka and Atlantic Cinema. In addition to live screenings, selected films will also be available online, allowing a broader audience to engage with Ukrainian filmography.
The festival will feature an impressive lineup of nearly 70 films, covering a wide range of genres such as feature films, documentaries, short films, and animations. This year’s festival will include three main competitive sections: documentary, feature, and short films, with a total of 46 titles vying for recognition. A notable highlight will be a section dedicated to the Crimean Tatars, offering insights into their rich culture and contemporary issues faced by this ethnic minority.
Opening the festival will be the winners of the Odessa International Film Festival, the feature „Gray Bees.” The event will also host the Polish premiere of „Stepne,” recognized with top honors at the Molodist International Film Festival. To conclude the festival, attendees will be able to view „The Editor,” directed by Roman Bondarchuk, a poignant documentary about a film editor who perished on the front lines of the war in Ukraine. Following the Warsaw event, the festival will continue its journey across various Polish cities, exemplifying the growing appreciation and accessibility of Ukrainian cinema nationwide.
